Alpha Male | Bold and Confident

Most men want to become a strong, bold, self confident, making things happen, alpha male kind of a guy.  Here are 6 Alpha Male characteristics and how to imitate them.  Some of these might surprise you!

In this day and time, many men and women have tremendous insecurities.  Part of the insecurities come from the proliferation of media.  One can see thousands of images a day from across the globe and feel inadequate.  Sure, years ago our grandparents had insecurities too.  But nowadays, we are comparing ourselves with the world not just a few people down a dusty road.

An alpha male owns who he is.  That doesn't mean he won't improve, but it means he is not out to meet everyone's expectations of himself.  Ivan Dyn over suggests reminding yourself constantly that we are not here to meet other people’s expectations.  He believes that we learn from our parents the art of striving for approval and engaging in people pleasing.  So make a habit of controlling your self talk.  Mohamed Ali, a master of self talk, once said, “I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark."

When I think of hopelessly self confident men, I think of Iron Man: Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr.  As with all these characteristics, many men have them but they are lurking under the surface and dying to come out.  Perhaps through a sense of guilt or caution many men don’t assume their God given male characteristics.

Now I'm sure there are some exceptions, but most men are shaken from their tree every time something bad happens.   This economy bites for sure, but to an Alpha it gives us more opportunity to shine.  Meet every challenge as opportunity to do greater things, start something new, and build something from nothing.  A great example of this is Steve Jobs.  During the commencement address to the 2005 graduates of Stanford University he said, “We worked hard and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a 2 billion dollar company with over 4 thousand employees.  We had just released our finest creation, the Macintosh, a year earlier and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired.”  Jobs later went on to create Pixar and re-establish himself as Head and CEO of Apple.   If you find yourself in a bad situation, relax and realize the best years are ahead.

You may have noticed that when people get nervous they talk fast and tend to babble.  Sometimes its because they lack self confidence or they are merely trying to prove or qualify themselves to who they are talking too.  An alpha male remains cool and speaks slowly; confident in what he has to say.  One of my favorite movie characters is Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry for this very reason.  He hardly talked, but when he did it was something important.

A guy who is the center of attention has no need to look around and see where the real party is.  He is the party and focus of the group.  You can tell who the alpha male is sometimes by where he is positioned in a group and whether people are looking in his direction.
